Young vineyard Winery S. Pratsch

Read more

cutting

In the middle of the cold season - usually in January, when the vines go dormant for the winter - we prune the vines. Thanks to modern technology, this work step is made considerably easier: the vines are shortened to different lengths using electric shears. The number of so-called "eyes", i.e. the places where the shoots will later grow, is taken into account. Read more

cellar work / writing a cellar book / label design

The preparation of the wines in the cellar continues in winter: Yeasts are stirred, the first classic wines are made ready for bottling and the cellar book - our documentation platform - is continuously updated. Depending on the requirements of the (mostly export) market, we make individual changes to the desired labelling / design details.

Wine cellar Weintank Stefan Pratsch

While others present their young wines in November, we prepare for the bottling of the current vintage at the beginning of the next calendar year: The fermentation and later also the development of the wine in the tank must be continuously monitored and supported by means of a temperature-controlled system, among other things. Skill is also required here in order to select suitable wines ... Read more

Harvest 2023 Vineyards

This year's harvest challenges me and leaves me little time. Despite this perpetual frenzy of activity and duty, I would like to take a moment to give you a little window into this year's harvest. Every day that I stand among the vines reminds me that the work, as exhausting as it is, ... Read more

marketing activities / wine events

In our winegrower calendar the intensive phase of the harvest is usually followed by the event season: The months of September to November are particularly popular with wine lovers - and are therefore packed with wine-related events: Here, for example, we support "Weinherbst" events or tastings for our customers in Tyrol.

autumn impressions 2022

Autumn 2022 was full of excitement: the harvest, the conversion and my attempt to capture the great atmosphere at the vineyard. A meeting with friends from Sweden, the splendour of the flowers between my vines and the sunsets. Between all the events and work, playing football is an important balance for me, which I have been practising since 1995. Here ... Read more

knitting in 2nd pass, "Ostutzn"

A few weeks after the first pass, the shoots are "knitted in" again in the middle of the summer heat. The long shoots now reach beyond the 2nd double wire so that they can be well supported by it after knitting in. Later, if necessary, these shoots are also shortened mechanically (= "Ostutzn") to prevent them from breaking off due to the ... Read more

update: Conversion part 2

While nature is bursting into life, the next highlight is also happening in Milchhausstrasse: The new windows have been delivered! An important step towards a modern tasting area, we are very pleased.

knitting in

As soon as the shoots growing out of the arches are high enough, they are "knitted" into the first double wire by hand. The wire construction helps the shoots to grow vertically upwards and thus form a dense wall of foliage. In this way, the shoots protect each other with their leaves from the increasingly strong sun.
